Challenge:  Overcome Millions of Competing Pages to Get Page One Quickly

A major retailer had low ranking on a number of high-valued seasonal keywords prior to the crucial summer months.  In the US market alone an estimated 2.4mm monthly searches were placed on this group of keywords.  Though PPC campaigns were achieving page one ranking, the client was spending a lot of advertising dollars (approximately $25K per month) to get there and seeing a diminished ROI as a result.  There were 1.4 million competing pages on average for each keyword, and the client was “stuck” on page four+ of search engine results with efforts to date not achieving any improvement in rank.

Solution:  Shoreline Appliance Off-Page Module

Utilizing just one component of the Appliance, the client was able to make a modest investment of $400 to build quality content around the keyword that delivered value to an array of online readers.  Further, the client was able to share the content across multiple social, information, and blog sites to build authority, and thus inbound links, across the internet.  From initial keyword analysis to content creation and syndication the total elapsed time was five days.

Results:  Page One Ranking in 45 Days

After content syndication the client achieved a page one ranking on 2 of the top terms in 45 days, on average moving up 18 positions from page four to page one, two or three, an improvement of 75%.  In addition to finally establishing traffic on the keyword, another benefit was improved brand awareness and decreased PPC costs by shifting clicks to organic listings.  Finally, as an added benefit, the client was able to focus on other areas of its keyword portfolio instead of constantly managing its PPC campaigns.
